“Did she really say that? “

Oh girlfriend. Zuri Girl got chatting with Health Coach Vanessa knows how hard it is to plan in the kitchen.

She is not a perfect “let’s just whip something up outa the refrigerator” girl.

She is a native New Yorker who loved ordering take out. We’re talking Sushi on speed dial! (But that’s just not happening here in Switzerland.)

Plus… she has two hungry boys on her hands every day in the kitchen wanting a delish meal fit for a king. She also remembers what it’s like to be single… and working like a maniac in a nutty on the road non-stop job.

So, let’s talk turkey.


There isn’t a one size fits all solution for meal planning as there isn’t one kind of high heeled shoe.

We’ll have to coach you through this one.
(with some potential solutions at the end of course.)

When we want to develop ourselves, we first need to understand that we are unique people with unique needs.

Start with acceptance of where you are right now. It’s totally okay.

Autumn on my Plate

This year has been a run through hell for me. There have been way too many changes in my life. New apartment, new work focus, new daycare, no gym, no yoga studio, new routine and a new commute.


I am totally off balance, especially with my food.


Whenever I’m feeling out of sync… I get lazy and immediately start eating too much bread and pasta. This is when I remind myself to FOCUS on beautiful local and seasonal foods to get grounded again.


Because what you focus on, grows.

(Focus on garbage… and that grows too.)


You have to see for yourself…

Eating seasonally is actually a magical experience.

Gruenpfahl Mutter's Kueche

Grünpfahl is a new restaurant in town (at least new for me.) I stumbled across it after a coffee session at the Mitte. I was led outside the Mitte with smells of lovely fresh baked pita breads and tangy vinegar and salads dressed in olive oil. The café restaurant has very cozy outdoor seating in the cobblestone street on Grünpfahlgasse.

What is it exactly?

The tagline on their card says: Grünpfahl - Mother's Kitchen: mediterranean, homemade, fresh and light.

And that's just what they have. Pitas stuffed with vegetables, feta and kofta. Pitas slathered with a tangy tomato spread. Gorgeous fresh salads. And Yummy sandwiches with chick pea spread, fresh vegetables, aubergine and feta.

One evil evening, I was jonesing for a chocolate something.

Chocolate Ben-N-Jerry's ice cream, no no.. home made chocolate muffins with chocolate chunks... umm no.. dark chocolate bar with almonds... oh no.. no can't do that! I was going down a dark chocolatey road. So... I freaked out all by myself in my tiny kitchen and said;


I then consulted the fridge. Celery, Cucumber, Cottage Cheese, Spinach, Milk, Yogurt, Jalepeños.

Mnnnn. Nothing was calling to me. What can an almost 40 year old health coach do at 8 p.m. in her kitchen with a lust for chocolate and drool coming out the side of her mouth. I think I was growing fangs. How could I eat something gross and yucky then look at my clients in the morning and tell them to eat some rice cakes with honey? I have to walk my talk and BEAT THIS DARN CRAVING!


At the end of my search for darkness and destruction, here's what I came up with.

Chocolate Yogurt made with Cailler Pure Cacao Powder, Vanilla, Maple Syrup and Plain Yogurt.
It was so freakin delicious and a much healthier choice than where I started from. And you know what? It hit the spot! Mission completed!
